Dad and I decided to try out Patio Carlito or Whitehouse on 84th for lunch today. He picked me up from the house and spent some time with Warren. Warren was in his usual bubbly self smiling and grinning at Dad the whole time (more about his visit in my next post). Dad came out smiling. 🙂
Patio Carlito / Whitehouse on 84th is located in the Scout Tuason area. This is owned by the group of Raymund Magdaluyo, the same owners of Red Crab. The restaurant has a cool ambiance reminiscent of a favorite restaurant of mine in Thailand, Kuppa. It is newly renovated to have an enclosed patio. We were informed by the servers that it used to be open ala Al Fresco type and the owners decided to put enclosed glass walls on it. The inner area which they named as Whitehouse on 84th had a different feel, it had a 60’s feel to it. It is a nice venue for a get-together with balikbayans and is an alternative to Filipino restaurants such as Bagoong Club and Romulo Cafe within the area.
ON THE TABLE:
This dish is surprisingly good. It was crispy and had Dory fish inside.
Was a bit disappointed with the Cuchinillo. It looked more like Crispy Pata than Lechon. For the price, I was expecting more that just 4 pieces of meat. In fairness, the skin was really crispy and the meat was tender.
This is a winner for me! The beef was tender. The portions were about right. The sauce was tasty with bits of olives and tomatoes. Just the way I like my kaldereta.
All in all, if you are looking for a place with a nice ambiance and respectable Filipino food, this place is a good alternative. It has a lot of themed rooms that you can rent for a minimum consummable requirement. Also, it has a live band playing from Mondays to Saturday nights. Good hang out spot. Good ambiance.
